This fossil of Glossopteris leaves helped prove the theory of continental drift. These fossils can be found in Australia, South America, India and Antarctica, but in no continent that was not part of Gondwana.. They were part of a huge forest, covering much of Gondwana, and provided scientists with information about how the current continents were arranged hundreds of millions of years ago. They are found from as high as the sandstone layer, down to the lower layer (tillite) of the earth's surface.
